and with Rhona Hoffman at the Armory
Kehinde Wiley Willem van Huythuysen 2006 oil and enamel on canvas 8' x 6' [large detail of installation]
Gosh, he just gets better. This magnificent painting was offered by Roberts and Tilton at LA ART. Two days earlier I had seen the equally impressive dual portrait below at the Armory, with Rhona Hoffman.
Kehinde Wiley Albert and Nikolaus Rubens, the Artist's Son 2006 oil and enamel on canvas 106" x 95" x 4.5" framed [large detail of installation]
i was featured in last years art in america mag april edition kehinde is well i should he's a brotha 2 me in more ways than one this izz morfene tell him i said hi peace
I happened upon one of his paintings (that included a white horse) at the Brooklyn Museum and all I can say is "wow"! I love how he puts young AA males in these classical painting situations, which obviously one would not expect, so it ends up being rather "quirky" imho. I would love to buy one of his paintings with a guy on a horse, but I'm pretty sure they are out of my price range!! :--)
saw him on "cool in your code"; his works are intriguing & draw you in to see all the details; would like to see more.
All I can say is WOW! I wish the Columbus Museum of Art advertised the Kehinde Wiley Columbus art exhibit as much as they did the Degas.
I think more of our African-American community would have come out to support! I love the meshing of classic masterpieces with urban hip-hop culture.
Thanks Kehinde!!! Awesome!!!
I love all your paintings and your sculptures. They look real life. I can't wait to buy one. The colors are so vivid. ;-*
